Ambassador Kamara addresses Addis Ababa Mission staffers

 

Mr. Osman Keh Kamara, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador-Designate to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on 16th June 2014 held his debut meeting with both home base and local staff of the Addis Ababa Mission.

The meeting which took place at the Chancery marked the commencement of Ambassador Kamara’s official duty at post.

In his opening remarks, he said that the manner in which staff members introduced themselves shows that there was a high sense of a strong family working relationship among them.

“I want to crave your indulgence to continue to work as a family for the good of Sierra Leone,” he added.

Ambassador Kamara in his brief address emphasized on three key issues- conduct, commitment and team work.

“The Embassy will not be run like a sole proprietorship,” he said, adding that the contribution of every staff member is significant to the rebranding process and socio-economic development strides of His Excellency, the President Dr.  Ernest Bai Koroma.

The incoming Ambassador ended his address by saying: “The local staff are also equally important in this process and therefore should be treated with respect and civility.”

The Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Ismael Koroma in his introductory remarks thanked all the staff members for supporting him when he was Chargé d’ Affaires a.i. of the Mission.

He described the meeting as a one point gathering, adding that the day was very significant for the Addis Ababa Mission.

Mr. Koroma recalled that Ambassador Kamara has contributed immensely to Sierra Leone’s developmental process.

“He worked with the United Nations backed Special Court for Sierra Leone. His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma thought it fit in his wisdom to appoint him as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia,” he said.

Prior to his posting, Ambassador Kamara served as Deputy Permanent Representative to Sierra Leone’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York in charge of Legal Affairs.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister Counsellor and Head of Chancery, Mr. Ibrahim Vandi Kondoh.

In another development, the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Ismael Koroma participated in a Panel Discussion on Intergenerational Dialogue Between Experts and Children at the African Union Commission Multi Purpose Hall. The Panelists were drawn from all walks of life.

The Panel Discussion was organized as a side event in commemoration of the Day of the African Child. This year’s celebration is themed: “A Child Friendly, Quality, Free and Compulsory Education For All Children in Africa.”

The Deputy Head of Mission told his audience that education is a priority in Sierra Leone, citing Government’s commitment towards building the capacity of untrained and unqualified teachers in a bid to empower them.

  1. Koroma also made mentioned of Government’s efforts in encouraging female students in the sciences by providing scholarship for them, the retention of girls in schools through the national programme for the reduction of teenage pregnancy and the school feeding scheme.
