Big boost for Sierra Leone Armed Forces as U.S. Ambassador donates 24 DAF Cargo trucks

On June 14, 2017, the U.S. Ambassador, John Hoover donated 24 DAF Cargo Trucks to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Chief of Defense Staff, Lieutenant General John Milton. The trucks are being turned over as part of the cooperative support that the U.S. Logistics Support Depot provides to the RSLAF. The 24 trucks will be primarily used for transporting people and large pieces of equipment and are valued at approximately $800,000.

The donation of these trucks is one of the many ways in which the Logistics Depot collaborates with the RSLAF for the mutual benefit of the region. Along with donating equipment, the Logistics Depot has provided training on logistics management, supply chain planning, and equipment maintenance to over 700 RSLAF personnel over the past 10 years.

The donated trucks will enhance the RSLAF’s capacity to mobilize and respond to large-scale events such as election security, border security operations, and any humanitarian crises that may arise and enhance the overall capabilities of the security sector. The mission of the Logistics Depot is to provide a rapid-response capability for peacekeeping, humanitarian and peace-sustainment operations across West Africa.
