Dr. Frederick Gbegbe dies

 

Former University of Liberia President, Dr. Frederick Gbegbe, Sr. 

It has been confirmed in Monrovia by family members that former President of the University of Liberia  is dead, according to family members, Dr.  Gbegbe die late Monday evening on December 31, 2018 at the ELWA hospital in Paynesville on the outskirts of the Liberian capital.

A daughter of the former UL President, Mrs. Hawa Gbegbe Dahn told www.newspublictrust.com Monday night, that Dr. Gbegbe died after a period of illness, when he was rushed to the hospital.

“A very sad day for Lofa and Liberia just few hours to 2019.
worked with him over those years as a recording secretary on the Board.
Dr. Gbegbe was a tough and very principal minded man.
He worked for over 30 years in the educational sectors in Liberia,” says Kolubah Akoi, a prominent Liberian from the northwestern Lofa County..

Dr. Gbegbe served one time as a President of the University of Liberia and later moved to the Cuttington University Graduate School, where he served as Vice President for Academic Affairs.

He was retired earlier this year.

The late Dr. Gbegbe served as the first Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Lofa Country Community College for 5 years.

He is a 1969 graduate of the UL with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Science Education with Chemistry as major teaching subject and Mathematics as minor.

Dr. Gbegbe served as chairman (2000-2003) the Monrovia National Office of the West African Examination Council.

The fallen UL President was a little over 70 years and he is survived by several children and a host of relative.

His wife, Mrs. Mildred Gbegbe, who once served as a senior official of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Monrovia office died earlier this year.

The body of the former UL President is presently deposited at the Samuel A. Stryker Funeral Parlours awaiting funeral rites.
