Drama in Freetown, as Police moves in on Radio Democracy 98.1 to arrest former minister who was there criticising the SLPP Government

There was drama in Freetown today as the now maligned Sierra Leone Police moved in on Radio Democracy 98.1 to arrest former Eastern Regional Minister, Karamoh Kamara, who was there criticising the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP) in a talk show.

Personnel at the radio station refused to allow the Police to enter and the minister remained holed up in the station for hours, communication with the public on Twitter and Facebook, before he was later arrested and taken to the CID  where he is now detained.

Breaking News: An opposition politician and former Government Minister, Karamoh Kabbah is holed up inside a local radio station after police went in to arrest him. Staff of Radio Democracy say two plain-clothed men and two uniformed officers (general duty officer and a riot police) went inside the radio while Kabbah was granting an interview assessing the first 100 days of President Julius Maada Bio.

They say they asked the policemen to wait outside where they are still waiting to effect the arrest as I post. The head of the police Criminal Investigations Department, Supt Gabriel Tommy told me that the move to arrest Kabbah had nothing to do with what he might have said on the radio. He said they had discovered the official vehicle he used as Minister of State for the East, cannibalised and hidden somewhere after he had failed to hand it over. He said persistent calls for him to report to the police were ignored. Kabbah however told me that it was all a coverup.

He said the move to arrest him came in the back of another invite yesterday by the top echelons of the police whom he said accused him of engaging in subversive activities. Referring to the move as a threat, he wondered why if the CID had tried to reach him he was not arrested in that meeting yesterday or they had not contacted his APC party office.

Sulaiman Jalloh This is a shame, this so call new direction is trying to kill our democracy that will never happen again, does days a gone

Former Resident Minister East and Deputy Organising Secretary of the opposition All Peoples Congress Karamoh Kabba has been detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Kabba joins former Youths Minister and Youth League President of the APC Bai Mamoud Bangura who is still detained at the CID on allegations of misappropriation of public funds.

We are coping with the prevailing economic hardship in the country. Thanks and praises to Allah.

We are gradually coping with the Bota bata Roto rata government of vengeance. By the look of things, the SLPP is preempting chaos.

Yusuf Sankoh Demo is really crazy in Sierra Leone. Are we having Democracy or Democrazy? Freedom of speech is been muzzle by the Powers that Be. As Sierra Leoneans, we need to go back to the drawing board, in order to sustain our Fragile peace.

Christian During He was not arrested because of any talk show, he was arrested for carrying two (2) passports with two different names and that is a crime. People must find out the facts before writing tasteless stories. Some of you will eventually end up in jail, make my word.

Ousman Barry They claiming its a car issue. Its a lie.he was in a meeting yesterday why they didn’t arrest him?

Pretty soon… sober SLN will realize the direction of this naive and failed government…. this is not looking good at all.
