With six matches coming up in the weekend, four matches on Wednesday created a very big shake up in both the top and bottom of the Sierra Leone Premier League table.
Ports Authority FC snatched a second half 1-0 win over Kamboi Eagles to leap from 4th place on the Sierra Leone Premier League table to the summit. Thanks to a Foday Mansaray strike in the second period as the Eagles were made to rue a string of first-half misses.
Kamboi Eagles could have got the equalizer in the last quarter of the match but Ibrahim Kamara shot wide a one-on-one opportunity.
The victory gave the Water Front Boys a 100 percent win record; having secured nine points from three matches with three goals scored and none conceded.
Kamboi Eagles head coach, Alhaji Foray rue his team chances to at least secure a point but refused to cast the blame on a particular individual.
“We didn’t defend well as a team in the build up to the goal we conceded but we played better afterwards and were unlucky to get the equalizer,” coach Foray said after the match.
On his part, Ports Authority head coach, Alusine Balla Kargbo heap praises on his boys for their defensive display, nothing that his team played with the right attitude.
“We follow the rhythm of the match and defended carefully. We struck at the right time and created several scoring opportunities but our opponents defended well after the goal,” coach Kargbo said.
In Makeni at the Wusum Stadium, Substitute Adonis Kamara’s 70th minute superb left foot strike from an Alex Koroma’s curling cross in the penalty area gave the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) FC a deserving 2-1 victory over the Diamond Stars of Kono and earned their first points in three matches.
Momoh Conteh got the curtain raiser in the 25th minute after receiving a cross midway into the RSLAF half and brilliantly dribbled past three opponents before firing home a clinical finish that sent the goalkeeper on the opposite direction.
However, the jubilations did not last long as the “Soja Boys” replied two minutes later from an Ibrahim Sillah strike to take the game at 1-1 at half time.
East End Tigers sharpened their claws after a humiliating home defeat by Kamboi Eagles last weekend to claw a lone goal away win to the Freetown City Council FC at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium on Cline town.
With the scores tied goalless at the 80th minutes, many had hoped that the score-line would be blank until Baimba Sesay’s 84th minute strike gave the visitors a well deserved three points.
In the late kickoff at the Siaka stevens Stadium in Freetown, visiting May Park Boys forced the Cavaliers to a goalless draw to secure four points from three matches and move a place up in the SLPL table while the host moved to second place with eight points but a game more played.
