For “Ending the war”, President Kabbah was mobbed when he returned home. Since “Ending the war” is now his greatest achievement in Sierra Leone, I’ll suggest we celebrate 18 January with big party every year, as this is their only achievement and we can’t take it away from them.

To the extent that any such celebration will create an awareness in the people of sierra leone on the eviles of war, I concur with your suggestion and support it.
To the extent that the purpose of the celebration is to promote the ending of the war as an SLPP achievement, I am opposed to it, in that one cannot at the same time support and encourage an armed rebellion by providing it with men and materiels like the SLPP has admittedly done, and then be given the credit for ending it. The two are mutually exclusive.
The SLPP created the war, supported it and cannot be given credit for ending it. Many now present in the SLPP were on both sides of the war.

As much as I believe the SLPP government has failed us and would like to see their backs, I do not believe they started the war. Foday Sankoh and his band of rapists and killers never cared about political affiliations.

except of course if you factor into the equation, a Foday sankoh in the nush with a green bandana tied around his neck as a scarf, speaking to his rag tag troops and telling themthat they were going to take over from the APC and bring back the SLPP. (Thats irefutable evidence on VIDEO). Also facto into the equation the fact that during the start of the war the onkly thing that could save anyone or village from destruction was the placing of palm fronds on their doors and tying palm leaves around their wrists. That is also the uncontrovertible evidence on record at the special court. Further place into the equation that Foday Sankohs testimony before the TRC was pre empted by the government of the SLPP, makes one wonder why were they so scared of what he would say. There are many other factors that I could come up with but be satisfied with these my dear briother Moinina.

Credit for ending the war goes to the people of Salone for standing-up against the AFRC, and to the international community for their sopport.How can Kabba claim to bring peace when he and his colleagues were the first to race to Guinea before the mutiny transformed into a coup? Kabba and his cohorts should be tried for the hundreds of innocent people killed, maimed and imprisoned in their quest to reclain power. If his surbodinates in his security apparatus that administered the process that ” ended ” the war are being proscecuted for their acts in the process, Kabba must surely have his day in court.
