It must be recalled that in December , the African Leadership Magazine announced that President Koroma has won the Award. We bring you a report by the AFRICAN REVIEW MAGAZINE :

The US based African Leadership Magazine has awarded Sierra Leone`s leader the ‘African President of the Year 2013′.

The government, in a statement in Freetown, said the award was conferred on President Ernest Bai Koroma for his “people-centred leadership approach to governance”.

The annual African LeadershipPREZZOANDHISAWARD3 (600 x 447)Award is given to deserving leaders who have made impacts in the lives of their people.

The award is often presented during an annual International Summit on African Leadership, an occasion that often brings together African policy makers, industry leaders, investors and think tanks, to discuss on a specific theme.

The last edition in February was held on the theme: ‘Leadership as Key to Africa’s future growth and Development’, and was held in Washington DC.

President Koroma could not attend. But in a letter to the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the Magazine ahead of the occasion, he expressed appreciation for the recognition.

He said it confirmed “the transformative leadership which has been the cardinal focus of his administration.”

On Friday at State House in Freetown, the President repeated this position while dedicating the award to the people of Sierra Leone for standing by him.

With this award, the Sierra Leonean leader joins a list of distinguished personalities who earlier received the award, including President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, President James Michel of Seychelles, among others.

Other distinguished African personalities to have received it include African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka, former Nigerian Central Bank Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and Mo Ibrahim.

The Executive Board of Trustees of the magazine cited Koroma`s “unique character” and his transformative leadership qualities that brought dignity and integrity to his country.

It also cited his efforts to fight against the scourge of corruption, as well as his effort to empower grassroots people.

Previous editions of the awards summit have been held in Accra, Paris, Dubai, London and New York.
