Scramble at dump site for contaminated chicken : Why are some of our people so thoughtless and reckless with their lives and public safety ?

This is a story we are publishing reluctantly . As a rebranding newspaper, we do not often publish stories that cast our people in bad light. However, the stubborness, recklessness and thoughtlessness of our people to their own health and public safety compelled us to publish this story.  Whenever there is an outbreak of deadly diseases in Sierra Leone, people blame only the government . They fail to consider the roles played by some members of the public in facilitating the outbreak.

OUR MAN, IDRISSA CONTEH , REPORTS :

People Scramble over Rotten Chickens at Bomeh Dumping Site

A container of imported chickens that had gone was taken to the Bomeh dumping site yesterday afternoon to be thrown away, but despite police intervention to prevent the rotten chicken from being taken away by  people, none of the cartons of smelly chickens could be buried!

PEOPLE SCRAMBLING AWAY WITH THE CONTAMINATED CHICKENS

A large crowd of  persons ran after the truck from the Queen Elizabeth II Quay to the Bomeh dumping site.

The few police personnel deployed to ensure the expired cartons of chickens were properly buried were over powered by the large crowds who regarded the circumstance as an opportunity to get some food for their families and to make some money from sales.

BOMEH CHICKEN 3

WHY IS THIS POLICE OFFICER LAUGHING ? IT IS NOT FUNNY ! ! !

According to reporters who witnessed the scene, not a single piece of chickens was left on the dumpling site.

There will be little surprise if we hear of an outbreak of diarrhea in the coming days.

This is not the first time expired food has been dug up from the dumping site.

The Government issued a statement warning the public against eating the contaminated chicken.

However, the warning has fallen on deaf ear!!! The “Bomeh chicken”, as it is been called, is being consumed in several homes in Freetown!/

This huge family in Wellington, Freetown that was devastated by the Ebola epidemic disease says this is a unique opportunity to eat chickens for several days in a row!

The young lady dishing out the food is the head of a polygamous family shattered by the Ebola epidemic disease. All their patents had been lost to the disease rendering the family more vulnerable than they were before the disease.

When reporters asked as to whether she knew that the chicken had been poisoned, she just retorted ” na lie den dae lie. Nartin nor do di chickeeen”!

PRESS RELEASE

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation is making it abundantly clear to the general public that the frozen chicken, FRANGOSUL, product of Brazil has been condemned as unfit for human consumption.

With police and other stakeholders present at the Granville dump site (Bumeh) just after Upgun, over 75 percent of the consignment was crushed with mud, human and animal faeses including domestic and industrial wastes by MASADA’s front load machine.

Due to alleged mechanical failure of the machine some of the consignment was not crushed. This resulted to fracas/fight between the police and desperate people who managed at the cost of tear gas and took away some cartons of the rotten and heavily contaminated chicken.

DO NOT EAT THIS POISONED CHICKEN because you will suffer from
Chicken food poisoning caused by two types of bacteria called CAMPYLOBACTER and
SALMONELLA.

Because the chicken has been contaminated with all types of faeces, you will suffer from DIARRHOEA,
CHOLERA and HELMINTHIASIS (all types of worm infestation).

If anyone has the following symptoms please go to the nearest health facility for treatment:
Fever
Abdominal pain
Upset stomach
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea

Please protect yourself and the public from diseases: Do not eat or sell those contaminated Brazilian brand chicken!
