Sierra Leone erupts as nation begins celebration of end of Ebola transmission

Sierra Leone erupted at midnight today as the nation began its celebration of the end of the Ebola transmission.

Ahead of the huge program to be held this morning at the Bintumani Conference Centre where the World Health Organization ( WHO ) will officially announce the end of Ebola in Sierra Leone, thousands of people took to the streets and jubilated after the clocks chimed midnight, heralding the onset of the 42 mandatory days of no new transmission in the country.

The jubilation started during  a March and a Solar Light Vigil from Campbell Street to Cotton Tree, in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone from Campbell Street to Cotton Tree, in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, organized by a coalition of female civil society organizations in Sierra Leone.

A jubilant President Ernest Koroma attended a program (for the final countdown of the minutes remaining for the 42 days to be completed)  at the National Ebola Response Centre (NERC )  where the Head of State and the WHO  toasted the end of the ebola transmission in Sierra Leone.
