Sierra Leoneans march to protest Lumley Beach gang-rape and murder

Sierra Leoneans yesterday showed their outrage towards the gang-rape and murder of a young woman by staging a march  and candlelight vigil in the capital, Freetown , to protest against the horrendous crime.

Dressed in black as a sign of mourning and holding burning candles, the demonstrators called on the Police and the relevant authorities to do everything it takes to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The march was organized by outraged members of the female community who called themselves POWER WOMEN , with the theme : “We are all Hannah “. The march started from the Aberdeen Turntable and proceeded to the murder scene at the beach .

Government officials, including the Minister of Social Welfare and Gender Affairs, Mr. Moijueh Kai-Kai, took part in the demonstration. Our correspondents in Freetown say that the crime horrified President Ernest Koroma and members of the government and that everything is being done to bring the culprits to justice.

The victim, Hannah Bockarie, 18, was gang-raped and murdered on August 13 at Lumley Beach in Freetown.

WE BRING YOU PICTURES OF THE DEMONSTRATION BY VARIOUS SOURCES INCLUDING MR. NASSER AYOUB.
