The Hon. Speaker of Sierra Leone Parliament Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu 20 October suspended two members of parliament; Hon. Hindolo Mowoi Gevao and Ibrahim Tawa Conteh.

Reliable sources in Parliament intimated this medium that the MPs would remain suspended until the Committee on Ethics brings out their report before they would be reconsidered for reinstatement.

SPEAKER ABASS BUNDU

Beyond Borders gathered that the said MPs were suspended based on alleged acts of misconduct as per provisions in the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone and the House’s rules of procedure. They were committed to the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges and Ethics for investigation; pending approval by the House for complaints relating to intimidation and verbal abuse, indecent and derogatory text messages, unverified corruption allegation against Parliament  on BBC’s Focus on Africa programme and alleged arm-twisting by the Leadership of Parliament resulting in resignation.

In another development, Hon. Momoh Bockarie and Hon. Mohamed B. Shaw were referred to the Committee on Privileges and Ethics for further investigation. They are said to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise by the investigation and recommendations of the said Committee for adoption by the House.
