In order to bridge the leadership gap that has plunge the Chiefdom into chaos and atrocities, the Government has taken a stern decision in giving an indefinite suspension to the Paramount Chief (PC), Haja Mariama Kanja 1V of Gorama Mende Chiefdom, Kenema District.
The suspension according to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon Tamba Lamina came after the PC failed to uphold several agreements and regulations aimed at bringing peace and tranquility to the Chiefdom amidst strife between the Wonde society members and some Muslims.
Addressing members of the Chiefdom at their headquarters barry in Tongie town, the local government minister, Hon Tamba Lamina expressed frustration over the use and abuse of religion by some people to cause havoc and atrocities in the Chiefdom.
The minister emphasis freedom of association and free speech as long as it does not go against the right of others which he said is entrenched in the 1991 Constitution.
He added that it is the right of people to belong to any club, society or religion of their choice.
“We therefore see no reason why you should stop others from associating with the wonde society” said minister Lamina thus condemning the action of the muslim in stopping the wonde initiation, brushing and setting their shrine ablaze.
He recalled several meetings where the Paramount Chief was strongly advised to provide positive leadership for peace to reign between the wonde society members of the muslim in her Chiefdom but acted contrary.
Government he said has therefore reached a decision to suspend the PC Haja Mariama Kanja 1V indefinitely with immediate effect while announcing Mr Wahid Kallon as the Regent Paramount Chief till further notice.
He concluded by banning the suspended PC from holding any meeting in that Chiefdom.
National Security Coordinator, Mr Abdulai Avayama Caulker also addressing the gathering expressed anger stating that their focus at this time must be making good use of the Free Quality Education and the food security in line with President Bio Big five game changers.
In a no nonsense mood, the NSCoord emphasis that they will leave no stone unturn in bringing to book those that bears the greatest responsibility for the chaos and atrocities that befall the Gorama Mende Chiefdom.
He however warned against malice in name of perpetrators stating that anyone discovered to be using personal vendetta against others will be dealt with.
Inspector General, Mr William Fayia Sellu called for cooperation with the police in their investigations.
Perpetrators who are hiding in the bushes he went on to say can stay there as long as they want but assured that they will not escape justice no matter how long it takes.
He urged for Chiefdom partnership in getting a bigger police station and unity.
