The Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara was part of a high-powered Sierra Leonean delegation that attended the Post Ebola Renaissance meeting in the United Kingdom. The meeting held on Tuesday 24th February 2015 at the House of Commons in London was to discuss the way forward for post Ebola Sierra Leone, and what could be done especially in the energy sector.
Anticipating an end to the Ebola Virus Disease, planning for a more sustainable economic development in Sierra Leone is imminent which is why key stakeholders who are particularly interested in accountability and transparency met in London to effectively strategize on creating a conducive business environment in the country.
Commissioner Kamara expressed optimism in the process of planning a recovery for Sierra Leone after Ebola and said the Anti Corruption Commission will rise to the occasion in enforcing its mandate of ensuring accountability and greater transparency.
He mentioned that there were positive outcomes from the strategic meetings held with the Executive Leadership of Standard Chartered Bank International who reassured the team of their commitment to help the Government and people of Sierra Leone. A package has been set aside for promotion of small business holders in Sierra Leone and to boost local banks by providing access to financing that will raise the standard of living for Sierra Leonean citizens.
He said the position of the Commission is to reassure donors and business people that the Commission will use its accountability strategies to help make the post Ebola recovery process transparent, noting most stakeholders are particularly interested in issues of accountability and transparency when it comes to national development .
