Meet Commander Mamady Doumbouya, the man who arrested 83 year-old president Alpha Conde.
Commander Mamady Doumbouya, is a licensed officer of the School of War, with more than fifteen years of military experience, in particular during operational missions (Afghanistan, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Central African Republic) and close protection (Israel, Cyprus , United Kingdom, Guinea).
Commander Mamady Doumbouya brilliantly completed the operational protection specialist training at the International Security Academy (Israel), the unit commanders training course at the Infantry Application School (EAI – Senegal) , the training of staff officer (EEML – Libreville) and the Paris War School. The head of the Special Forces Group adapts and improvises to any situation that requires self-control, risk assessment and rapid decision-making.
He is highly trained commander who is able to identify and defuse risky situations by remaining calm in the face of a hostile environment and extreme
Doumbouya was a French legionnaire before he returned to Guinea to lead the Special Forces Group, an elite military unit created by Alpha Condé.[4] When he took office, his international experience was cited including training he had completed in a number of different countries.[4] In 2021, he was said to have been seeking more authority for the Special Forces Group.[4]
According to reports , Col Dumbuya was a special favourite of President Alpha Conde. Conde promoted him because of ethnic and tribal reasons to head the special forces. He was /is like a son to him and extremely close to him . He is 33 years old.
Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, who led the coup that toppled president Alpha Conde gave this reason for the takeover “dire political-situation of our country, the instrumentalization of the judiciary, the non-respect of democratic principles, the extreme politicization of public administration, as well as poverty and corruption.”
MAMADY DOUMBOUYA:“We are no longer going to entrust politics to one man, we are going to entrust it to the people. We come only for that,” declared Col. Mamady Doumbouya, the special forces head, appearing on state television with Guinea’s national flag draped around his shoulders and members of the military surrounding him. He said it was “the duty of a soldier to save the country.”
