My fellow Sierra Leoneans,
It is with gratitude to God Almighty that I, Dr Samura Kamara today wish to thank the people of Sierra Leone for supporting my successful nomination as the Presidential Candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC) for the March 7, 2018 Presidential and General Elections.
This overwhelming show of support for my candidacy has been building up since I became flagbearer of the APC on October 15, 2017. I thank the Chairman and Leader of our party, His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, the Deputy Chairman, the National Secretary General, the Regional Chairpersons and other members of the National Advisory Committee for reposing this great honour in me and my running mate, the Honourable Chernor Maju Ramadan Bah. I applaud the Presidential Campaign Committee, the National Youth League, the APC Women’s Congress, the APC Veteran Welfare Association, the APC Diaspora and other organs of the party for their wonderful support for my candidacy. I thank the national, regional, district, constituency and zonal executive members for galvanizing support all over the country. I applaud all APC candidates for the parliamentary and local government elections for mobilizing their constituents towards ensuring that we had the greatest number of persons this country has ever seen showing support for a party’s nomination of its candidates. Let me use this opportunity to also congratulate the 132 APC parliamentary candidates, 15 district chairperson candidates, 7 mayoral candidates, and 511 candidates for Councillor who have been successfully nominated.
I am also very thankful to former aspirants for the APC symbol who stayed the course, and supported the nomination process. I am grateful to the party legal team for their wonderful services. I am grateful to the thousands of affiliate groups whose amazing and enthusiastic support are hallmarks of our party as a movement of the grassroots, for the grassroots, and by the grassroots.
I salute the institutions of the state that have ensured a democratic nomination process. I am thankful to the commission and staff of NEC and the PPRC, and the security forces. I applaud our musicians and other entertainers, traders, journalists, cultural and traditional organizations, social media activists, bike riders, kehkeh, taxi and other drivers, teachers, health workers and Sierra Leoneans from all other walks of life.
Most importantly, I thank the ordinary women and men of the APC who came out in their hundreds of thousands in Freetown and all over the country in an overwhelming show of support for my nomination and the nomination of the 132 APC parliamentary candidates.
This overwhelming support has renewed my determination to build upon the achievements of my party, the APC in the last ten years, meet the remaining challenges and move forward with growing the economy, focussing on youths, women and the physically challenged, promoting private sector investments, creating thousands of more jobs for youths and other groups, expanding access to health, education, electricity, water, justice and ICT, protecting the environment, ensuring increased investments in agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and mining, and enhancing law, order and equal protection for all.
Let me use this opportunity to reiterate my personal commitment and the commitment of my party to peaceful, free and fair elections and to condemn all acts of violence. I commiserate with all victims of violence and ask our law enforcement agencies to speedily ensure justice for victims and their families.
Once again I thank you all for your support and humbly ask that we continue to collect our registration cards from the NEC district offices and build upon this momentum to ensure a first round victory for the All People’s Congress on March 7, 2018.
