Human Rights Commission Vice Chair Condemns Police Action During Planned Bar Association EGM.

Deputy Human Rights Commissioner Victor Lansana has voiced strong condemnation following a recent incident involving police intervention at a Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) meeting.

In a tweet, Lansana expressed disappointment over police officers preventing aggrieved SLBA members from convening to discuss their grievances without a court orders.

The controversy unfolded when police officers reportedly barricaded and surrounded the New Brookfields Hotel, designated as the venue for the SLBA Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), as the newly elected executive led by Adama Tuma Gento claimed such a meeting was illegal. This meeting was organized by dissatisfied SLBA members who were unhappy with the election of the new executives.

Lansana emphasized that such police actions barring the meeting without a court order were unwarranted and called on law enforcement to cease such actions immediately.
