The main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) Deputy Leader in the House of Parliament, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo has said in an interview with Forum that his party is set to challenge the ruling by Justice Adrian Fisher that ruled out committee members from taking part in the democratic and political processes of the country.
“We have to start a fresh case in September to register the concerns of the people whom the court ruled out and exempted from participating in the party’s national delegates’ conference,” said Hon. Alhaji I. B. Kargbo.
He described the verdict as a cheap political ploy to deprive key APC members from active participation in the country’s political and democratic processes, adding that the party has collectively deliberated on the issue with relevant stakeholders and have all agreed on taking the matter back to court.
At last Wednesday’s meeting in Makeni, the APC dismissed the ruling of Justice Adrian Fisher, on grounds that it is ‘unfair’, and against so many members of the party.
The meeting thus decided to appeal the ruling on those exempted from taking part in all conventions.
APC Acting National Publicity Secretary, Sidi Yayah Tunis, said the final comes in September, which will give the party the opportunity to move ahead and adopt a new constitution and conduct all primaries.
The APC Deputy Acting National Publicity Secretary, Mohamed Pope Kamara, is quoted as saying the National Advisory Committee-NAC met, discussed and agreed with the relevant key players including lawyers to file an appeal against the ruling.
He informed that those affected by the ruling also shared their views and opinions on the ruling, adding that the APC is set to file an appeal as ‘Justice Fisher has no right to tell the party who should be delegate’.
Kamara said the party is at the moment seeking an appeal; and when that is clearly achieved, the national delegates’ conferences can be conducted.
It could be recalled that Justice Adrian Fisher recently ruled out the participation of certain APC members.
