Mrs. FATIMA BIO, the wife of President Maada Bio and First Lady of Sierra Leone , set off a huge social media firestorm yesterday, Armed Forces Day , when she posted on Facebook that she has become the only First Lady to recruit 300 female soldiers into the Sierra Leone Army. She accompanied the post with a photo of herself posing with soldiers and her husband, the Commander-in-Chief of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces standing alone dressed in army combat uniform.
As soon as she made the stunning post, Sierra Leoneans responded swiftly by condemning her bitterly, stating that it is not her responsibility to recruit soldiers into the army and that she had usurped the role of the President and Commander-in-Chief. Sierra Leoneans further described Fatima Bio’s post as a travesty of the norms of governance —The wife of the President unilaterally taking it upon herself to serve as a recruiter of soldiers into the national army.
Strange things are happening in Sierra Leone politics. The wife of the president,Mrs Fatima Bio, has announced on armed forces day that she helped to recruit 300 women into the country’s army.
Abdul K-Salaam Njai ,no one is against the empowerment of women, but my question to you is this: should the wife of the president interfer in the recruitment process of our national armed forces. When you answer my question, then I will broaden the debate. Using the concept of women’s empowerment to justify unprincipled political interference in the army recruitment process,by the spouse of the president is a hogwash.
It’s the personification of state institutions, which will undermine their impartiality.
E faint late. The damage has already been done. She is the commander in chief, Bio is just a ceremonial figure. I believe most major decisions are taken by Fatima Bio. Sierra Leoneans have a compromised president. The day Bio coughs against Fatima that’s the day Sierra Leoneans will know the ugly things Bio did to be given power. For now Fatima is the President of Sierra Leone and she is the husband and Bio the wife according to their marriage vow.
Wow. Isn’t this embarrassing ? So, it is the president’s wife who recruits soldiers ? This government.. Just when you think you have seen it all. SHAME.
Oh no my head hurt. Since when was she in the Army, or held any high ranking position to do this? Oh man im literally cringing, Presso Bio tie u trosis fine, dis woman dae pull u wase na doo too mus.
One thing to note is for a fact that she stated she is the first n only first lady to achieve such, meaning this is never in the existence of power in salone. Fool lek boot
You should be ashame of yourself, you have no moral ethics it is a big disgrace for us as Sierra Leoneans. Who gave you the mandated to recruited a national army!! A professional force that suppose to protects our territorial integrity is been carry out by a first lady of a country? Oh my God!!!! I never see this in my life. you guys have put our country into complete mess.
