In his speech, Dr. Suphian Kalokoh, the APC USA Chairman, expressed pride in visiting Ohio as a guest of its distinguished president. He highlighted the significance of young people stepping up to leadership in critical moments for the APC, and was proud to return to Ohio, a city that welcomed him to the United States. He noted the incredible work done by patriotic APCians who continue to support the party from afar, maintaining an unbreakable bond with Sierra Leone.

Dr. Suphian Kalokoh made two key points during his speech. First, regarding the Ohio chapter, he commended the President and his executives for inheriting a rich history of leadership in the Ohio chapter. He took a moment to recognize Comrades Eddie Bangura, Rashid Bangura, and Sallu Bangura, who toiled for many years to develop the Ohio chapter into what it is today. He emphasized that the current leadership owes a great debt of gratitude to these men for their hard work, which has shaped the chapter’s success. Dr. Kalokoh thanked them for their contributions to the APC in the USA, the diaspora, and globally.

He congratulated the president and his team for stepping up during one of the most challenging periods in the history of the APC in Sierra Leone. He remarked on the president’s unwavering confidence in the APC, reassuring him that all present were ready to support him in every way to ensure success in his duties.

The second statement Dr. Suphian Kalokoh made addressed the current state of the APC and Sierra Leone. He acknowledged the immense difficulties faced by the party and the country over the last sixteen months, particularly following the fraudulent announcement of the June 27th. Every day since then has been painful and disappointing for the people the APC represents.

Reflecting on the five years leading up to the June 27th announcement, Dr. Suphian Kalokoh noted that the pain and struggles endured during that time fueled the efforts of June 24th elections. He declared that those who bore the brunt of the divisive and incompetent regime were the true enemies of Sierra Leone. He emphasized that the APC must continue to fight for the urban poor, rural communities and slum dwellers who have been mistreated by the SLPP regime. These are the people the APC has always represented and must never forget.

He urged the audience to continue conversations with their comrades, especially those imprisoned or affected by the regime. He acknowledged the colleagues and comrades who lost their loved ones, husbands, wives, sons, and daughters and are now left to fed for themselves. Many are poorer today than they were previously. Dr. Kalokoh expressed hope that in the coming months, they would revisit these conversations and renew their commitment to these people.

Even as he spoke about the party’s present and future, Dr. Kalokoh reminded everyone not to forget the APC’s founding principles. The party was created 64 years ago with a unique understanding of the struggles of ordinary Sierra Leoneans. Their everyday hardships and hopes for a better future are what the APC has always represented, and he hoped that as the party moves forward and prepares to form the next government, they would continue to serve the people faithfully.

In closing, Dr. Suphian thanked everyone who attended the event, with special appreciation for the women of the APC and its leadership.
