Statement by Ex- President Ernest Koroma on dropping of treason charges against him

STATEMENT BY HIS EXCELLENCY DR. ERNEST BAI KOROMA FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE

Today, I received the announcement by the Honourable Attorney-General and Minister of Justice that the criminal proceedings instituted against me have been discontinued in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

I, therefore, thank the Almighty God for the infinite grace and mercy to me and my family throughout this difficult period. My faith has remained anchored in His providence and in the enduring conviction that peace, justice and reconciliation must always triumph over adversity.

I acknowledge, with appreciation, the role played by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone and all those whose efforts, guided by our Constitution and the rule of law, have contributed to bringing this matter to its conclusion.

I am profoundly grateful to the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, and my friends former heads of states for their unwavering commitment to peace, dialogue and regional stability.

I am especially indebted to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for his exemplary leadership, personal commitment and steadfast support throughout this process. To the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I convey my deepest gratitude for the exceptional support, hospitality, friendship and generosity extended to me since our arrival in Abuja.

Our country has overcome far greater trials because we have always found the wisdom to place nation above self, to build bridges of understanding, strengthen the bonds that unite us and work together in pursuit of a stable and prosperous Sierra Leone for present and future generations.

I remain committed to every sincere effort that advances peace, strengthens our democracy and promotes the welfare of our people.
