Multiple news outlets are reporting that Guinea has claimed that Joseph Boakai of Liberia and Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone have backed its longstanding border positions following a recent Mano River Union summit in Conakry.
According to Guinean authorities, the meeting-hosted by President Mamadi Doumbouya-reaffirmed colonial-era boundary agreements, including a 1907 treaty with Liberia and earlier accords between France and Britain defining borders with Sierra Leone.
Guinea says both leaders acknowledged these frameworks, with officials claiming there are now “no more misunderstandings” over disputed areas, particularly around the Mano River region, including Kudaya and Kessiné.
Meanwhile, Guinea has defended its increased military presence along the borders, stating that troops will remain deployed as part of ongoing efforts to secure its territory-not as a new escalation, but a reinforcement of existing security operations.
The development comes amid renewed focus on border tensiøns in the Mano River region, with calls for peaceful dialogue in line with international law.
