Whatever may be said about the imperatives of diplomacy and peace, there is no excuse for a country like Sierra Leone not having a real army with an air force and a navy . Our size does not matter. Rwanda is small but it is bigger Congo DR who complains always about Rwanda.

At least , the much older man in Liberia, President Boakai, displayed guts by massing heavily- armed troops at the borders. The younger Brigadier in Sierra Leone , Maada Bio , could not dare because he was afraid of provoking Col. Mamadu Dumbuya. Our borders are therefore unprotected .
They too may have a weaker army , compared to Guinea, but I am impressed by Liberia. Even their immigration officers and PSU, like our once ISU, are fiendishly armed. The Liberian Army has not yet been deployed fully . But they have an armed presence on the borders already. Not so Sierra Leone.
The excuse that, as a very poor country, we do not need a formidable army is preposterous , crafted to excuse the unseriousness and lack of foresight of our country.
