Maada Bio takes over as Energy Minister as Government begins arresting electricity crisis in Sierra Leone

PRESIDENT MAADA BIO took over the Energy Ministry today, following a dramatic sequence of events, which included the resignation this morning of the substantive Minister, Alhaji Kanja Sesay.

The electricity crisis in Sierra Leone,  precipitated by weeks of blackouts in the country which riled citizens, crystallized today when the long- serving  Minister of Energy and Power, Alhaji Kanja Sesay , announced his resignation, citing lack of cooperation from the Minister of Finance.

Government supporters responded with reports on social media that President Bio had accepted the resignation of one of his most faithful and durable officials of government. As a matter of fact, at the height of the blackouts President Bio had threatened that if the situation did not improve he would take over the Energy Ministry.

Shortly after, the Ministry of Finance released a public statement ( See it below ) that the government had started paying its arrears to the Karpowership and the West African power pool in the Ivory Coast,  who had cut off power to the country because of non-payment by the government.

As Sierra Leoneans processed  the information , there was more drama coming for them. The SLPP Government announced in a press statement that President Bio had taken over as Energy Minister.

Not only did President Bio appoint himself Minister of Energy and Power but he appointed two deputies in the persons of Dr.Eldred Tunde Taylor and Edmond Nonie.

The question everybody is asking is whether President Bio had not needlessly  encumbered himself with an  additional burden when he was already acting as Defence Minister and the excruciating problems of misgovernance already weighed heavily on his shoulders, with many of his ministers already being accused of missing in action.

Some other people thought that President Bio acted too late on this energy crisis in the country.
