President Ernest Bai Koroma consoles China’s President Xi Jinping over Yunnan Earthquake



Sierra Leone’s President, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has in a letter to his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, expressed “deep shock and dismay” after learning about the 6.1 magnitude earthquake which recently resulted in the death of many Chinese citizens, in Yunnan Province, South Western China.

The earthquake, with a scale of 6.1 and said to be the strongest quake to hit the province in fourteen years, occurred on Monday 4th August 2014, killing scores of people.

 

PRESIDENT AND CHINESE LEADER

On behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone and on his personal self, His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma extended “heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China, especially the people of Zhatong, Ludian Country who were heavily affected”

His Excellency President Koroma prayed for the bereaved families to be comforted in their “struggle to overcome the loss of their loved ones” and prayed for the departed souls to Rest In Peace.

Sierra Leone and China have, since 1971 continued to enjoy strong and unshaken friendship since the establishment of diplomatic ties in that year. Both countries continue to experience progress in Trade, Economics and Technical Cooperation; Exchanges and Cooperation in all Fields including Education, Health and Culture.

Very recently, China made additional support of medical equipment to the tune of 10 Million Yuan ($1.63M) to the Ebola fight.
Sierra Leone was instrumental in China’s entrance into the UN General Assembly.
