The secret behind the frequent blackouts in Freetown that have made the city the darkest capital in the world as it was during the Ahmad Tejan Kabbah era has been exposed. The President Maada Bio Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP) government cannot pay the Karadeniz Powership berthed in the Sierra Leone River supplying electricity to the capital.
Below is a leaked letter from the powership to the Bio Government indicating the default which the SLPP has been concealing from the people. When the blackouts started months ago, the government blamed technical factors and lack of capacity from the Bumbuna Dam. The government has since been giving one excuse after the other, all bordering on falsehood.
Sierra Leoneans have been complaining bitterly about the balackouts on social media and even in the country . In many cases, they have blamed the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority ( EDSA ). But despite many promises by the government, there has been no improvement in the supply of electricity in the capital and the country as a whole.
Following the leakage of the powership letter above, the SLPP Government responded today by trying to allay the fears of the people.
