The saga of Maada Bio, a ruthless dictator misruling Sierra Leone from the fringes of lunacy

By KABS KANU

On the day Maada Bio was pitchforked to the highest echelon of political power in the war-scarred nation in 2018, the sun stopped smiling on Sierra Leone. Four years of President Bio have seen the ruthless lunacy of totalitarian power in a country that was delicately reconstructing after 11 years of bloody rebel war that killed over 50, 000 people and laid waste her infrastructure.

Sierra Leoneans will forever regret how Maada Bio managed to seize power in their country, through an accident of history enabled by a strife-torn and crippled ruling All People’s Congress ( APC ) that did not summon sufficient stomach to fight and largely surrendered power tamely to him,  a malicious regime-change mantra orchestrated by the then British High Commissioner and shocking betrayal by a National Elections Commissioner ( Infa Allie ) the former APC Secretary General Osman Yansaneh had canvassed and brought with the mistaken belief that he would preside over a fair and credible presidential election (Not knowing that he had in fact esconsed at the NEC a bitter enemy of the APC).   These factors conspired to bring to power a man that was already  a foe to be feared by many Sierra Leone who had still not forgotten his short but bloody reign as a junta leader before civilian rule was restored to Sierra Leone in 1996.

SLPP SUPPORTERS BRUTALIZING THE MENTALLY-DERANGED BOY, BLACKER, WHO OFTEN CRITICIZES THE GOVERNMENT

BLACKER, THE LUNATIC BOY ARRESTED FOR CRITICIZING PRESIDENT BIO, HOLDS HIS MOUTH SYMBOLICALLY IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE WHO WILL TRY HIM.

Since President Bio came to power four years ago, he has not failed to disappoint and show his true colours . He has misruled Sierra Leone from the fringes of lunacy.

The blood of innocent Sierra Leoneans has flowed on the streets of the country as the dictator unleashed mayhem at Tombo Village, Lunsar, Mile 91, Makeni, Tonko Limba and the Pademba Road Prisons where he killed over 100 prisoners and some correction officers–Extrajudicial political killings that have been highlighted in the annual U.S. State Department Country Reports on Human Rights.  Since Bio tasted power , the Police has taken after his ruthless character, using  live bullets and lethal force whenever  people are exercising their rights to protest against an unpopular government. The merciless dictator has not stopped there.  The Police, who now bear the imprint of his callousness and bestiality ,  brutalized  opposition parliamentarians in the Wells of Parliament; Supporters attacked and destroyed stalls of market women and traders at Abacha Street and burnt homes of opponents all over the country on the day the SLPP  was announced winner of the 2018 elections.

ONE OF THE BLOODY VICTIMS OF PRESIDENT BIO’S BRUTALITY

Since this Maada Bio government came to power four years ago, the pages of print newspapers and online media outlet  have been running with screaming headlines about  massive corruption , graft, embezzlement , bold- faced thieving and misappropriation of state funds by members of the Bio government on a scale never known before in the history of the country. The latest saga is the shameful exposure of many top level SLPP  government officials dishonestly carrying fake degrees from bogus institutions.

FAMILY OF THE MORE THAN 10 YOUTHS KILLED BY PRESIDENT BIO’S FORCES HOLD A VIGIL IN MAKENI

Nothing more colorfully underlined the lunatic nature of President Bio’s rule than the events of the past weeks when the dictator ordered the arrest of a ragged mentally-disturbed young man from the streets for criticizing him and followed it this week with the arrest of a stroke victim who cannot walk without physical help for also talking against him. Mr. Kemoh Sesay was seen in a video being helped to walk to the CID  by aides and a policewoman. Both physically-disabled citizens have been charged to court for exercising their constitutional rights of freedom of expression. When President Bio had the lunatic boy, Blacker,  arrested for condemning his misrule and sent him to court, Sierra Leoneans on social media jokingly wondered who was more lunatic–President Bio or the mentally-disturbed young fellow ?

The lunacy in Sierra Leone under President Bio has reached the level where citizens wake up in the morning and loudly wonder what other psychotic act will be perpetrated during the day by the SLPP Government.

What remains shockingly troubling in Sierra Leone is the silence of the intelligentsia, judiciary, civil society, the Association of Journalists , women and youth groups , human rights organizations like Amnesty International,  and leaders of conscience , who were vocal during the APC  era of former President Ernest Koroma.

Sierra Leone is skirting the edge of disaster under this lunatic governance of President Maada Bio. If a new war breaks out in Sierra Leone today, it will be no surprise to anybody because President Bio has done everything to provoke it. As a matter of fact, it looks like it is all Maada Bio is looking for—-Another war in Sierra Leone.
