Sierra Leoneans stay home to reflect on Ebola and pray , as cities turns into a ghost towns for the day

Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone,  and major cities in the country , looked like a ghost towns today as the nation honored President Ernest Koroma’s call for everybody to stay home and reflect on the deadly Ebola disease , which has hit the country with a storm.

In a nation-wide broadcast on July 30, President Ernest Koroma declared a State of Emergency and,  among other stringent measures,   declared Monday August 4, 2014 a National Stay at Home Day for Family Reflection, Education and Prayers on the Ebola outbreak.

As a demonstration that the people of Sierra Leone obey their Head of State, President Koroma’s call was honored to the last digit. The streets of the capital and major towns in the country were empty. There were no private cars, taxis, poda podas , okadas, pedestrians or street traders .Everybody stayed home to reflect and pray.

Discussing the day in the social media, Mr. Robinson Sesay jr remarked :  “Trust me, Sierra Leoneans are tameable as demonstrated today on the stay home order. Today is the quietest day we have ever experienced in Freetown. All we need is one with guts and a sense of direction, Sierra Leone will be fine.”

 Journalist Abdul Karim Fonti Kabia said : “Another full day home. Though this time my being home was decreed, it definitely does not hurt, especially with the availability of electricity, internet, and cable TV. Perfect day I must say.”

Mr. Ransford  Morgan Metzger took a more spiritual perspective : “Oh God as we all stay in our Homes today to reflect on this scourge of Ebola, we ask for your forgiveness and protection for our Families, Friends and neighbours. For our fallen heroes we ask for Mercy… Prayer for Purity! Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your mercy, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; . Ameen.”

PORT PIKIN enthused :  “Thank to the National Power Authority (NPA) for  helping people to heed here the call of HE president KOROMA for a national stay home and prayer day by providing 2 days stable light which comforted people in their home. As for me , since I become independent today is the first  time for me to stay at home for a whole day. I have prayed to God all night to kick ebola out of the world. Go go go Ebola . We don’t want to hear you  any more in the world”.

According to COCORIOKO  reporters, prayer vigils are being held to pray for the nation’s deliverance from the scourge of Ebola.
