Former NPRC Secretary of State Idriss Kamara joins the Fight to Zero Ebola Infection

 

Freetown, June 15, 015 (MOHS) – Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the organization ‘White Angels’ and former Secretary of State South in the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) Military government Lt. Col.(Rtd) Idriss Kamara has expressed his commitment to compliment government’s efforts in improving environmental health and sanitation programme in the country.

The Retired Lt. Colonel who is currently based in Virginia, USA and presently in Freetown is partnering with two other organizations: Prince of Peace whose leadership is also from United Kingdom and Bombay Youth Organization (BYO) headed by Virginia USA based Gibrilla Sankoh working with the Deputy Minister II, Madam Madina Rahman and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation as part of their patriotic diaspora support ahead of the Post Ebola era.

He said their work is voluntary and sacrificial and has so far engaged in cleaning market places, hospitals, and other garbage at sires. The Kroo Town Road and Bombay street markets, the Connaught hospital were among the first facilities targeted for the ongoing cleaning exercise which may continue to the provinces.

Speaking at the end of the cleaning exercise at the Princess Christian Maternity (PCM) and Ola During Hospitals on Sunday June 14, 2015,  Rtd Lt. Col. Idriss Kamara said his organization is motivated by the clarion call from President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to collectively join the fight to end Ebola in Sierra Leone.

He said as Sierra Leoneans, it is their sacred responsibility to sacrifice for their country in their own little way that would impact the health system.

Rtd. Lt. Col. Kamara noted the many potential lives lost as a result of the Ebola and warned against complacency.

The Director,  Environmental Health and Sanitation, Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Ansumana Sillah described the exercise as a good beginning, adding that as a Ministry they are very much concern about the water, sanitation and hygiene in the health facilities, describing the initiative as a global concern.

Dr. Sillah commended the three organizations for the gains made in cleaning the facilities and the removal of the garbage, adding that the exercise would help compliment their efforts in instituting infection prevention and control measures in the hospitals.

Deputy Health and Sanitation Minister II, Madam Madina Rahman described the cleaning exercise and the partnership as very resourceful, and commended the three groups and the other organizations including the ACAYO group for the good work as it would help upgrade the hygiene and sanitary condition of the health facilities.

She encouraged nurses and other health workers to maintain the cleaning exercise with a view to providing a conducive and healthy environment for both themselves and the patient.
