The power blackout that has once again engulfed the capital of Freetown has provoked many comments from journalists .

A grave situation is brewing in the Western Area, following the decision by the Management of the Turkish Karpowership to switch off the machines that supply constant and reliable electricity to the capital city of Freetown.
The failure by the Government of Sierra Leone to make a down payment of 50% of the total amount owed to the Management of Karpowership has led to this miserable situation for residents of Freetown.
Since his election as President in April 2018, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has been profoundly committed to resolving the endemic electricity crisis he inherited.
His government has consistently provided energy subsidy in order to keep the capital city constantly illuminated. Unfortunately, for the past seventeen months, the Ministry of Finance has not been keeping with payments of energy subsidy to Karpowership for the new contract.
A reasonable payment plan offered by the Management of Karpowership to the Ministry of Finance was rejected, according to reliable sources.
The Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, recently met with a delegation from Karpowership and praised them “For showing patience” in the delay of energy subsidy payment to them by the Government of Sierra Leone.
Many holiday makers fear that residents of Freetown might have to contend with a Christmas of discontent.
SLPP supporters fear that the constant blackout in the capital city of Freetown might overshadow President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s success story in other areas like Free Quality Education and the expansion of the space for civil liberties to flourish.
Senior government officials remain optimistic that the issue will be resolved before Christmas.
Investigations continue.
SIERRA LEONE PRESIDENT MAADA BIO IS A MESS!!!
December 1st 2021, Turkish Karpowership which has been supplying electricity to Freetown stopped operation, leaving Freetown in utter darkness. Others have been dusting their ‘Kabba Tigers Generators’ which were abandoned 3 years ago. Karpowership claimed Bio government has not been paying it dues for the past 17 months.
Legendary anti-graft crusader Prof. Lumumb reckoned that once a corrupt individual gained political power, his focus is not on serving the people but how to win the next election at least to avoid probe.
Instead of paying up Karpowership to continue lighting up Freetown, , President Bio is spending over $12 million on an IRRELEVANT MID-TERM CENSUS, which all opposition parties, EU, and other development partners have questioned. Bio’s is convinced that manipulation of the MID-TERM CENSUS is crucial to a 2023 victory hence, he is unfazed when Freetown goes blackout!

The truth is it’s not cost effective for this government or any other government to enter in to power purchase agreement for a long period when Sierra Leone owns all it takes to provide its own energy.
Emergency power purchase agreements are always corrupt and there’s no way a government that genuinely cares about using tax payers monies wisely can sustain such a contract.
This will continue to affect the country’s economy and kill the idea of producing our own energy which will be cost effective and efficient to address the energy challenges we are facing as a nation.
What you need to understand is Emergency power purchase agreement are only meant for short term purpose. Any idea to push emergency power purchase agreement for even a year means certain people are lining up their pockets in such dubious contract at the expense of the state.
It’s important to recall that the APC government entered in to the said batch ship agreement to ensure efficient electricity in the Western Area during the 2018 general elections.
Therefore this government of Bio wasn’t supposed to renegotiate such an agreement by falsely telling Sierra Leoneans that they were able to renegotiate a good deal when the said contract failed to meet international best practice on private energy purchase agreement.

FREETOWN BLACKOUT: HUGE OUTAGE HITS MORE THAN FIVE THOUSANDS HOMES IN THE CAPITAL CITY OF SIERRA LEONE
🎤🚩🎤🚩🎤🚩🎤🚩🎤🚩The power failure and shortage hit tens of thousands of people in the capital and even nearby cities especially during this festive season. It is obvious that the SLPP/PAOPA government don't like business people or even firms, that is the reason why most business people or firms moves away from the unfriendly business environment of this government. The battling mobile phone networks were also affected by the massive blackout. "Then if the people's power is disturbing you, please bring back our cosmetic power!!!".
Blackouts are a frequent occurrence in Freetown, because of huge debts incurred and wrong priority of expenditures.
In a country where the government problems pay no attention to boundaries of the main opposition, and a failure to navigate those boundaries can produce disaster. Now, more than ever, the country needs effective party (i.e. APC) who can 'move the needle' to improve the country performance.
