Madam Yvonne Aki- Sawyer has exposed plans by the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government to indict her through the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC ) for ofences she did not commit, pursuant of the SLPP’s vengeful ambition to get rid of her . The embattled Mayor released the following statement in the social media :
Good morning and thanks for praying. We serve a living God. He will never leave us or forsake us.
The ACC Commissioner has now said that he will issue an indictment today for me and Manja, charging us for abuse of power and misuse of funds respectively. We understand that he has been advised by his legal staff that there is no case but he is determined to indict us because the anti-corruption act says that public officials that are indicted are immediately suspended.
I have had discussions with lawyers all weekend and there is an argument that the specific provisions in the Local Government Act are superior to the Anti-Corruption Act provisions for the removal of a mayor and they would need to be followed. That would mean 2/3 of my councillors would have to vote in favour of my removal.
I have also spoken to a senior government influencer who has asked the ACC Commissioner to not issue the indictment letter today but to engage with this person before going further with the process.
The injustice of trying to remove me from office and of trying to get Manja to pay $20,000 to the ACC for the flights and hotel costs that she rightly used to release over $4m worth of investment for Freetown is staggering. This is so clearly and visibly a ploy to destroy my reputation and possibly disqualify me from running from office in the future.
But Jesus is Lord and God is God over everything. This is a spiritual battle. The CA, the Deputy Mayor and the 5 or so councillors fighting me alongside Govt have relied heavily on “juju” – they even brought a “moray man” to my office. I thank God that He will demonstrate His power over them.
Please join me in praying that God will intervene in this situation and that He will scatter their plans and will scatter them. God put me in the seat and only He will remove me from it. May He set me a table in the presence of my enemies. Praising Him for grace and strength today and in the coming days. Please also pray for Manja. That she will have God’s peace and courage in the face of these sustained attacks. Our God reigns, our God reigns!!! He is not a loser, He is Lord overall!!
