All hell broke loose in Freetown yesterday afternoon as fully armed SLPP government presidential guard troops stormed a press conference being held by the opposition APC and sent their presidential and mayoral candidates , scores of party officials and journalists scampering for cover, in the process shooting and killing a woman described as a haja.
These latest shocking atrocities by the President Maada Bio government happened while the country was still teeming with international monitors and stakeholders who had come to observe the country’s general elections held last Saturday.
The attack resulted in the troops shooting to death a supporter of the APC, Haja Mahawa Dumbuya. She is the second APC supporter shot to death at the party office in a week. Last Wednesday, police also murdered another supporter popularly known as WHITE BOY.
With the opposition and international observer teams piling pressures on President Bio and government to make the votes- tallying system public and transparent, and tensions continuing to mount throughout the country as fears abound that the government is planning to rig the elections, the Bio SLPP government thumped its nose at all these stakeholders and sent troops to disrupt a press conference called by the All People’s Congress ( APC) to address the suspected electoral malpractices.
According to reports from various sources, the security officers fired teargas and live bullets at the APC party office , filling the whole building with smoke as frightened occupants hid under tables , dark corners and the basement to save the isir lives.
Presidential flagbearer Dr. Samura Kamara was smuggled by loyalists to the basement where they hid him, while Freetown mayoral candidates, Mrs. Yvonne Aki- Sawyer posted a social media video of herself
and some people lying on the floor in a room, hiding, and she could be heard appealing to the public to share the video and let the world know that they are under attack with live bullets and their lives were in danger.
Dr. Samura Kamara himself took photos of the incident and tweeted to the public that the SLPP had carried out another assassination attempt at him.
One of the APC officials trapped in the building who spoke to COCORIOKO on conditions of anonymity ( For fear of his life ) said the attack was very frightening and they were trembling in their hiding places . He said that foreign security officers sent by the British High Commission or U.S Embassy came to their rescue and gave them a safe passage out of the besieged building.
