Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, yesteray told a stunned nation that former President Ernest Koroma is being investigated as a suspect in the alleged coup attempt of Sunday November 26, 2023.
The Inspector General was speaking during the weekly press conference of the Ministry of Information and Civic Education.
The news caused a big stir in the nation yesterday and social media went into a tailspin , with enemies of the ex–president crying for his blood and rejoicing that at last what they had been wishing all along for the former President has been pronounced at last by the government. They insulted and threatened Koroma supporters who described the revelation as a witch hunt against the one-time president.
Supporters of the ex-president were taken aback by the Inspector General’s revelation, and continued their assertions that President Maada Bio is using the alleged coup attempt at last to accomplish the nebulous plans he had conceived in his mind since he came to power in 2018 to destroy the former President. Right- thinking Sierra Leoneans who had smelt a rat all the while , were even convinced about their suspicions when the Inspector General also announced the President Koroma’s daughter living outside the country, Miss Dankay Koroma, has been added to the list of people wanted in connection with the alleged coup attempt.
From the foregoing events and the way social media went viral yesterday with enemies of the president going into raptures of joy and demanding that President Koroma be even arrested and dumped at Pademba Road Prisons, like the other suspects, it is clear that the SLPP Government and its blood- thirsty mob of social media hounds are not going by the fundamental legal principle of PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE
Sierra Leoneans who have no affiliations with the SLPP or South East are warning President Bio and his SLPP mobs to tread carefully with the situation of Ernest Koroma and his family to avoid sparking another war in the country.
Years before this alleged attempted coup of November 26, President Bio had been threatening ex- President Ernest Koroma that he would reduce him from statesman to a common felon , if he did not stop commenting on events going on in the country. Bio does not want Ernest Koroma to exercise his constitutional and democratic rights of a bona fide citizen of Sierra Leone by speaking out against the wrong direction he is leading Sierra Leone . Bio is very, very allergic to democracy and conducts politics like the dictators of the past in Africa, like Idi Amin, Jean Bedell Bokassa, Robert Mugabe, Samuel Doe , Mobutu Sese Sekou and Moamer Ghaddaffi.
