Liberians have proved to the world that they believe in democracy. Sierra Leone has proved to the same world that we do not believe in democracy and we are a nation tightly steeped in undemocratic politics, dictatorship and totalitarianism under President Maada Bio . The Electoral Commission of Liberia has shown that it is working for the Liberian people and country. The Sierra Leone Elections Commission , on the contrary, has demonstrated that it is working for the autocratic and tribalistic SLPP government and the tyrannical dictator calling himself President.
The elections in Liberia have proved that while Sierra Leone continues to wallow in darkness, Liberia has seen the light.
If President Bio and the hawks in his SLPP have shame, they would have been bowing their heads in shame at what just happened in neighbouring Liberia. While they have been busy trampling on every democratic precept and practice ; while they have been lawless and uncivilized and subject not even to the constitution, the Liberian leaders and their people have marveled the world and gained everlasting honor and respect for proving that they believe in democracy, the rule of law , the constitution and democratic elections, which they demonstrated by conducting free, fair and credible elections .
While Liberia is being praised and honored, Sierra Leone has become a pariah state and a laughing stock at home and the international world under President Bio. Bio should be ashamed that under him Sierra Leone has become a failed state where people are beaten and maimed for their rights and where elections are stolen in broad daylight, while Liberia is growing stronger and stable in democracy and protecting people’s rights, with strong, credible and accountable institutions .
What a shame that a country once celebrated as the ATHENS OF WEST AFRICA cannot guarantee people’s rights to differ, assembly and demonstrate ; cannot respect human rights and the rule of law and cannot conduct credible elections. This is shameful state into which our country has been plunged by Bio since he came to power in 2018.
Image the local and international respect Liberians and President George Weah will always enjoy . It was so touching to listen to him say : “Tonight, the CDC has lost the election, but Liberia has won. This is a time for graciousness in defeat, a time to place our country above party, and patriotism above personal interest . Let us heal the divisions caused by the campaign and come together as one nation and one united people.”
How will Maada Bio feel when in the company of leaders from countries like Liberia, Gambia, Ghana, Senegal and others ? How does Bio expect Sierra Leoneans to feel when they are among Liberians ?
Bio has sold Sierra Leone’s respect and prestige down the river and should hang his head in shame.
