COCORIOKO SUMMARY : A very disturbing incident happened at the National Protected Area Authority today. Forest Rangers went on operation at the Aberdeen Creek , demolishing homes built dangerously in the wetlands. The community people retaliated and ran after the forest rangers to the office, stoning and beating them.
The Sierra Leone Police came in and instead of quelling the situation joined the attackers. A CITIZEN, MARIAMA S. RODNEY OFORI COMPLAINS :
What happened today at my office clearly shows we are sitting on a ticking bomb.
And I see people posting what they really do not know about the situation. Enti tok na free.
What people who are quick to draw conclusions don’t know is that the Forest Guards do have a mandate and it is legal. Take them ,anywhere. But I do not blame them, because most of the so-called authorities have an interest in everything that is lillegal.in SL. Come on for Christ sake, how people would be banking on the water catchment areas ,wetland and build houses and zinc places there. When disaster strikes una begin ala govt cam oooo.
The narratives have to change. Climate change and human activities harming our environment is poising a lot of danger but people don’t see it that way.
The same happened at Mortumeh when the forest guards warned people to desist from erecting structures but the high and mighties went ahead ignoring all advise and at the end of the day, look at what happened. And just the other day I have said we the citizens are not sincere and honest to ourselves. A lot needs to be done. Too much decadence in our vulnerable society.
To the Sierra Leone Police , what a shame. I honestly thought, we were at war. Seeing govt fighting govt wow. For whatever reasons our riot police are not trained or should I say it was a war of vengeance, for what I don’t know.
How could you come to ignite an already troubled situation and vandalise a government office. Using teargas in a govt institution which hosts mainly the Administrative and Management staff. Thank God I am alive to to see this day.
Internal Affairs and the Head of Police you have a lot of work to be done. And I look forward to see what would be done.
Lastly, the Bintumani 2 needs to be enforced as there is so.much hatred for each other in this small nation. Imagine the citizens around the office area calling on the police to continue to throw teargas and use force against us all because of what? It’s a govt institution. A very sad situation
You would be hearing from me in the ensuing days.
Fast forward, we need to bridge the deep divisions in this nation.
