Tension is very high in Freetown this morning and riot Police have been stationed in strategic locations as the Sierra Leone Parliament continues its contentious debate and possible vote on the controversial Public Elections Bill 2022, which opposition forces , journalists and political activists describe as a monumental assault on democracy and free and fair elections.
Already some thugs who were planning to enter Parliament with concealed weapons, including knoves, have been arrested by the Police.
During the debate last week, thugs stormed Parliament and unleashed terror on MPs belonging to the opposition, leading to one of them being left in a state of coma, after being attacked and stoned by thugs, said to belong to the SLPP.
This led to the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Bundu suddenly announcing new public containment decrees aimed at preventing public acess to the proceedings of Parliament.*
The thugs are trying to intimidate opposition MPs to vote in favour of the Bill which will guarantee President Bio an easy second term in the Presidential Elections next year.
