Alleged SLPP thugs trying to enter Parliament this morning arrested as tension grips Freetown ahead of Parliamentary debate and vote on Maada Bio’s killer Public Elections Bill 2022

By Kabs Kanu

Tension is very high in Freetown this morning and riot Police have been stationed in strategic locations as the Sierra Leone Parliament continues its contentious debate and possible vote on the controversial Public Elections Bill 2022, which opposition forces , journalists and political activists describe as a monumental assault on democracy and free and fair elections.

Already some thugs who were planning to enter Parliament with concealed weapons, including knoves, have been arrested by the Police.

During the debate last week, thugs stormed Parliament and unleashed terror on MPs belonging to the opposition, leading to one of them being left in a state of coma, after being attacked and stoned by thugs, said to belong to the SLPP.

This led to the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Bundu  suddenly announcing new public containment decrees aimed at preventing public acess to the proceedings of Parliament.*

The thugs are trying to intimidate opposition MPs to vote in favour of the Bill which will guarantee President Bio an easy second term in the Presidential Elections next year.

Unnecessary tension around town, riot police at strategic locations, simply because MPs are going to debate and try to pass the new Public Elections Act.
Is the police expecting a riot? Or maybe the ruling clan will seek to bulldoze as usual all in a bid to get a 2/3 majority which is very unlikely.
Dr Chernor Abass Bundu the ball is in you court , history will remember you kindly or otherwise based on how you handle proceedings today.

State Capture
APC MP’s Brace For Showdown Today With The Ruling SLPP Camp Over Critical Bill (law) Prior To Next Year’s Elections
In Sierra Leone MP’s of the main opposition party APC and allies in Parliament will debate on controversial proposed bill(law)that they and majority of Sierra Leoneans believe will disenfranchise over 2 million eligible voters in the country if it becomes a law.
The Bill (law) also gives the President Julius Maada Bio sweeping powers to unfairly dismiss electoral commissioners. Classical example of state capture in Sierra Leone by the Bio led government. The APC party and allies see the proposed bill as the latest of political manoeuvres by President Bio to cling unto power despite his current unpopularity nation-wide and beyond.
