*APRM to Hand Over Targeted Review Report on Unconstitutional Change of Government in Sierra Leone*

Sierra Leone will today November 1st 2023, receive and officially launch a Report by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) on “Unconstitutional Change of Government in the Republic of Sierra Leone”. This was revealed to the media last week by the new Executive Secretary of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Sierra Leone Office, Mr. Mohamed Sheshu Sheriff.
Sheriff furthered that this publication will serve as a significant event in Sierra Leone’s democratic journey and make History.
This report is said to be the result of extensive research and collaboration, aiming to examine the causes, consequences, and prevention of unconstitutional means of acquiring power in Sierra Leone.
It also will offer essential recommendations for improving democratic institutions and governance not only in Sierra Leone but across Africa.
The APRM, established by the African Union in 2003, is a voluntary self-assessment and peer review process designed to foster good governance and socio-economic development in African nations. Sierra Leone has been an active member since 2004 and completed its first country review in 2012.
The review on Unconstitutional Change of Government is a focused analysis inspired by President Julius Maada Bio, the current Chairperson of the African Peer Review Forum of Heads of State and Government. The President is expected to receive and launch the Report this morning alongside deliver a Keynote Address at the Freetown International Conference Center, Bintumani Hotel.
The process which culminated in the Publication involved extensive consultations with various stakeholders, oversight by the APRM National Governing Council, and guidance from the APRM Panel of Eminent Persons.
The Lead Panelist, Ambassador Dr. Inonge Mbikusita-Lewanika has already flown into the country and will hand over the Report to H.E. President Bio.
Other distinguished speakers and panelists from various organizations will be in attendance.
According to Sheriff, the event itself is a historic milestone for Sierra Leone and a testament to the country’s commitment to democracy and good governance.
According to the Sierra Leone APRM Office, the contents of the report including its key findings and recommendations are yet to be revealed.
