The illegal SLPP government is impetuous in lavishing state resources. The daylight robbery of June 24th general and parliamentary election is as a result of their insatiable embezzlement of state resources and a shield from facing the International Criminal Court (ICC). Interestingly, the electoral couple facilitated by Bio, Konneh and the Paopa boys have antagonised donor partners against his government at the detriment of the poor Sierra Leonean populace. A notable example is the Millennium Challenge Corporation MCC 500 million dollars fund. Another is the IMF – approved loan of U.S $20 million is meagre to mitigate the deplorable condition of our economy.  Therefore, as at now, the SLPP government cannot pay salaries and wages on time which makes it very challenging for public sector workers to pay their bills and look over their family. The Bio led government Imposed the recent 2024 financial Bill and allied five per cent tax on rice, which is our staple food.

A bag of rice is already sold at 850 Leones so one may ask if President Bio really has sensible advisers to address the shortfalls in revenue mobilization. Only a callous government would impose such taxes on basic commodities. The SLPP regime could have done it another way if they have the people at heart. An ideal solution could have been to cut down on the wage bill, and put out some austerity measures across ministries, department and agencies (MDAs). The government could have also merged ministries but we are seeing the reverse.

Instead of these measures, Bio chose to oppress the populace. Why is it that the poor should always suffer the consequences of their leaders? The SLPP government is fully aware of the cascading effects of a very steep rise in the price of fuel; the prices of fuel have a corresponding effect on the prices of goods and services. The throb of pain caused in the heart of ordinary citizen equates giving hemlock to an already starving man.
