*Those Embarrassing The President*
Bringing young folks into government is another way to build a prosperous and promising future for a nation.
However, those young folks should be ready to learn from old folks with lots of administrative experience and self-control.
President Julius Maada Bio’s current cabinet consists of young people, while the same could be said about heads of departments and agencies.
But the opportunity given to some of them has turned out to be the biggest nightmare for President Bio.
Most of them are now using their closeness to the presidency to gather ill-gotten wealth by involving in controversies and dubious deals at the expense of embarrassing the President.
The current drug allegations, if proven to be true, will see the biggest shake up in the government, as some top government officials are directly associated with the said fugitive drug lord.
While this Omar Sheriff fellow was portrayed as a businessman interested in gold mining, his purported long stay in the country, had nothing to do with his initial proposal. He was busy engaging in money laundering and drug trafficking.
Several investors have been presented to the President by some people with the hope of creating job opportunities for young Sierra Leoneans.
But today, none of them are around and nobody cares to follow-up to know exactly what went wrong.
Presenting a foreign national to the President without carrying out due diligence as a credible investor, is not in line with promoting investment or job creation, but a ploy to ridicule the presidency.
President Bio has been left vulnerable by those responsible to protect, detect and ward-off any criminal that may have the potential to come closer to the presidency.
While he is focused on the implementation of his Big Five agenda, some of his appointees including family members are busy making money by any means with the hope that, they are now in a position to succeed him even before the end of his tenure. Their ostentatious life style is seen and known by members of the public. Some people close to the President at State House have become richer than the state. Members of the public are asking, where are they getting this wealth from? This is a poor country. Those doing well can easily be spotted through their ostentatious life style.
There is an absolute disconnection between the Presidency and the people because, few people have succeeded in building a firewall around the President that could only be penetrated by them. Nobody knows why, the President has surrounded himself with small and inexperienced boys who continue to embarrass him. The President and Vice President are very modest people. They have conducted themselves very well in public life.
Ego and greed have gotten the best of some of the youths the President has appointed to key positions just to deliver for the people.
And today, some of them are taking the law into their own hands by doing exactly what some opposition members could be easily arrested for.
It is high time for President Bio to beware of those he has brought closer to him. The impact of governance should be seen and felt by the people, which is contrary to the agenda of those he entrusted with such power.
There will come a time when he will be shunned like his predecessors by those he has supported and elevated. This is Sierra Leone.
