The key elections observer teams in Sierra Leone to monitor the general elections have expressed grave concerns at the tabulation process of the votes by the Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP)-controlled Elections Commission—echoing the same suspicions the opposition All People’s Congress ( APC) has over the process.
The APC has been agitating for transparent tallying of votes to ensure uniformity with numbers on RRF forms from the vote counts in the polling stations. To avoid any surreptitious tampering with the numbers, the APC had been calling for the tallying to be beamed on a projector so that party agents will have the opportunity to verify against RRF forms results.
The SLPP Elections Commission, meanwhile, want to do it their way, just transmit the figures straight to the computer without giving party agents the chance to verify what was being sent to the computer.
