Sierra Leone’s dictator , Maada Bio, not content with defying the world’s superpower, the United States, has upped the antenna by standing down the subregional power, the Economic Community of West African states ( ECOWAS ) and proceeding with his witch hunt against the opposition All People’s Congress (APC ) and former President Ernest Koroma, whom he took to court yesterday for Treason offences that everybody knows are trumped up to get rid of the ex- Head of State.
By being a trucebreaker and failing to honor arrangements made with ECOWAS to send the former leader on exile in Nigeria, President Maada Bio has shown the nation and the world that he is not only one of the worst tyrants to have ruled any country in Africa but he is a foolish man looking for trouble and his own downfall.
While continuing to ride his luck and thinking that he is getting away with everything, Maada Bio is behaving like the stubborn coackroach that foolishly enters a palm oil bottle where he will be trapped and meet his tragic end .
Bio is a very stupid man as it is only a dunce who will believe that he will continue to upset the political apple cart and defy and annoy moral guarantors and not meet his Waterloo pretty soon.
Tyrants before Maada Bio , who ended in ignominous, tragic and shameful circumstances, did their worst and inculcated the same spirit of impunity , considering themselves invulnerable and unconquerable, but their luck ran out and they and their followers paid dire consequences when their evil deeds finally came back to bite them .
Since Maada Bio fooled the people of Sierra Leone and came to power in 2018, the country has known no peace or stability. His junta-styled leadership soon pushed a once peaceful nation to the brink of chaos and since then Sierra Leone has lurched from one conflict to another. When Maada Bio is not provoking the opposition APC and subjecting members of the party and his critics to witch hunts through unconscionable accusations, allegations and victimization , using commissions of inquiry and other adversarial legal channels , his bloodthirsty and tonton Macoute police , army and thugs are going around the country beating, maiming , shedding the innocent blood of people he dislikes and committing the most despicable human rights abuses ever witnessed in our country . In the process, Bio has killed hundreds of innocent Sierra Leone. If he feels he will get away with it, he is thinking standing on his head.
One of the men Bio cannot stand and hates to his guts and would not stop harassing is former President Ernest Bai Koroma. Bio hates Ernest Koroma so much that I am sure he has fantasies of himself sucking Koroma’s blood and feeding on the innocent flesh of the most progressive , over- achieving and popular president to have ever ruled Sierra Leone.
Bio has a morbid hatred for Ernest Koroma that borders around uncontrollable envy and jealousy for the former president’s strong and likeable personality, his ever-rising approval ratings among the generality of Sierra Leoneans who passionately love him for his remarkable political and tribal tolerance and inclusive style of governance and marvelous sociopolitical and economic achievements in power. If Maada Bio has his way, he will throw Ernest Koroma into a pit of lions, leopards and wild beasts or a furnace of fire to satiate his envy that knows no bounds.
Unable to control his jealousy and malice for former President Ernest Koroma, Bio quickly reneged on the arrangement he and ECOWAS, represented by Senegal’s President Macky Sall and Ghana’s Head of State, Nana Akuffo Addo , in a closed door meeting in Freetown a week ago, to stop harassing the ex- President and give him a safe passage to Nigeria.
According to President Koroma’s lawyer, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, the charges being levied against President Koroma are bogus and the whole thing smirks of a witch hunt. Even the U.S Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan Hunt, hinted recently that he did not think that any serious opposition member partook in the November 26 events in Freetown.
Bio himself is fully aware that ex-President Koroma is not the kind of man that will take part in a military coup or insurrection of any kind. Ernest Koroma is a very peaceful , orderly and benevolent man , of whose bounties Maada Bio enjoyed copiously before he gained power, with some help from the very Ernest Koroma.Bio is just looking for ways to do the former President in and destroy his image, legacy and life.
However, it is expedient to warn Maada Bio that his malicious, evil and nebulous schemes against President Koroma will never succeed. The fake charges against the former President will not stick. We know what Bio and his devilish extremist supporters are planning. As has often been done by other dictators, Bio I s going to massively bribe some of the accused to bear false witness against President Koroma. He is going to bribe them to attribute deeds to Koroma to tie him up to the so-called coup attempt that only his demonic supporters believe. But the world being very different today from the world where tyrants framed innocent people and even executed them and got away with it. Bio will fail because the world today has become very wise, thanks to the tremendous advance in knowledge, democracy, human rights awareness and transparency.
If Bio does not leave President Koroma, he will rue the day and damn the hour. A word for the wise is enough.
