Sad news reaching us say, Maj. Gen. MS Tarawalie (Rtd), former Force Commander of the Sierra Leonean Army has passed away peacefully at home.
Maj. Gen. MS Tarawalie was a professional military officer who went through the ranks to become head of the Sierra Leonean Army from 1985-1992.
Tarawalie was still the force commander when the rebel war broke out on 23 March 1991 in Bomaru and Baiwala in Kailahun district.
Maj. Gen. MS Tarawalie didn’t know from where to start when the rebel war broke as the army was bereaved of everything apart from obsolete armoured vehicles and defective AK 47 rifles to face the advancing rebels.
Tarawalie’s military career ended in the wake of the coup d’etat that brought the NPRC to power in 1992.
