Freetown, 11th February 2026- The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has suspended the All People’s Congress (APC) Party after it failed to comply with fines imposed under the Political Parties Act No. 25 of 2022.

According to the Commission, the APC was found in violation of Section 39(1) of the Act. As a result, fines were levied and formally communicated to the party on February 2, 2026, with a payment deadline set for February 10, 2026. Despite reminders, the Commission noted that the APC “failed, refused, or neglected” to settle the penalties.

In line with enforcement provisions of the Act, the PPRC announced the suspension of the APC from all political activities with immediate effect. This includes meetings, rallies, elections, and administrative operations. The suspension will remain in force until the party pays the outstanding fines and receives written clearance restoring its operational status.

The Commission emphasized that the matter should be treated with “utmost seriousness” to avoid further sanctions. Under the law, continued non‑compliance could trigger additional penalties, including investigations by the Anti‑Corruption Commission.

PPRC Suspends APC Party Over Unpaid Fines

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has officially suspended the All People’s Congress (APC), Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, for failing to pay fines mandated by the commission.

In a letter dated February 11, 2026, the PPRC Executive Secretary, Olushogo A. David, stated that the suspension is the result of a violation of Section 39(1) of the Political Parties Act of 2022.

The commission had previously set a payment deadline of February 10, 2026, which the APC reportedly failed to meet despite multiple reminders.

The suspension is comprehensive and takes “immediate effect.”

Until the fines are paid in full and a written clearance is issued by the PPRC, the APC is prohibited from:

Holding political rallies or public meetings.

Conducting internal or external elections.

Carrying out any administrative or operational actions.

The PPRC expressed “grave concern” over what it described as a refusal or neglect to comply with the directive.

The commission warned that the suspension would remain in force until compliance is achieved and urged the party leadership to treat the matter with “utmost urgency” to avoid further legal sanctions.

In early February 2026, the PPRC announced that it had imposed fines totaling NLe350,000 on the APC for alleged violations of Section 39(1)(c) and 39(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act, which restrict the use of profane, provocative or inciting language in political discourse. The penalties relate to remarks attributed to APC officials during a mammoth meeting at Atouga Mini Stadium on January 31, 2026.

The fines included a NLe150,000 penalty linked to statements by entertainer and APC member Zainab Sheriff, who has publicly confirmed on multiple media platforms – including EPIC Radio, Liberty Online TV and Truth Media – that she is a full member and supporter of the APC. Sheriff has rejected the PPRC penalty and announced plans to challenge the Commission in court if the party settles the fine on her behalf.

The APC has not yet issued a formal public response regarding the suspension or the specific nature of the original fines.
