Prior to the strike, ASA-Njala had on November 7th issued a 21-day ultimatum to the government before it extended it to the second week of December. But even then, the SLPP government cannot yield to the demands of the association. The SLPP government has failed to implement and fulfil agreements it reached with the Academic Staff Association-Njala as contained in the memorandum of understanding signed.
The Association went on strike over non-implementation of the NEEDS Assessment reports, non-payment of salaries, non-payment of allowances, victimisation of association members, among others..
