Franklin Township-Somerset had a new church yesterday. It is the Covenant Child World Evangelistic Ministry , a new church, led by Rev. Tigidankay Kabs-Kanu and her husband, Rev. Leeroy Wilfred Kabs-Kanu. The Ministry was founded a year ago and had been staging Bible classes and prayer meetings with an assorted fellowship of Sierra Leonean, African, African-American , Caribbean, Phillipino , Indian , Chinese and Hispanic believers and yesterday Sunday January 15, 2012 the Ministry heralded a monumental and historic transformation to a full-fledged church as it started holding Sunday church services at the Caribbean Palace Hall at Hamilton Street, Somerset .
REV. TIGIDANKAY KABS-KANU PREACHING
The Kabs-Kanu family, after over three decades of serving other churches in Liberia and the United States, especially predominantly white churches in the U.S , decided last year that it was time to go out themselves and spread the Word to all nations , preaching , teaching and making disciples as commissioned by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and to fulfill the admonition of Christ to the Apostle Peter that when you are converted , you must strengthen the brethren. The couple decided that they have been blessed enough with the required spiritual knowledge and experience to go out on their own , spread the gospel to the world strengthen the grassroots of God’s church . Members of the church prepared frantically for this big day and when it came, it left them satisfied that God’s hand was on the Ministry.
REV. LEEROY WILFRED KABS-KANU WELCOMING MEMBERS TO THE CHURCH
Yesterday’s inaugural Sunday worship service of the Ministry was a great success . It was well-attended and it took no time for the anointing of God to envelope the whole service through the anointed and spirit-filled praise service led by Sister Augustina Taylor, a woman profoundly gifted in leading the praises and worship in the House of God . Under Sister Taylor’s anointed control, members sang worshipful praises to the Lord, thanking him for bringing them together and helping them actualize their dreams of the Ministry.
FOR THE VERY FIRST SERVICE THE NEW CHURCH PULLED AN APPRECIABLE NUMBER OF CONGREGANTS. PICTURE SHOWS ONE AISLE OF THE SERVICE
In welcoming the brethren to the first ever Sunday service of the Ministry , the Rev. Leeroy Wilfred Kabs-Kanu reminded the congregation about the admonition in Zechariah 4: 10 : “Do not despice the day of small beginnings “. He predicted that by the grace of God Almighty, the Ministry had a small beginning but with God’s grace and guidance it will grow into a large congregation serving believers from all nations. He said the attendance on the very first day alone was encouraging to support his prophesy that the church will grow, in the name of Jesus Christ . He thanked all those who had been working diligently since the Ministry was started to help give it a foothold in the society and he urged them to continue doing things not as unto men but as serving the Lord. He assured them that God will bless them for their sacrifices. The Pentecostal minister said that the doors of the new church were open to all people , irrespective of their nationalities, colours or race. He read the central beliefs of the church which are in line with the Word of God.
ANOTHER AISLE OF THE CONGREGATION
Also welcoming the members was Mrs . Axa Kieffer , who announced the weekly schedule of the church which include a bible study class on Tuesdays and an all-night prayer service once a month.

Brother Dominic Kabineh who lifted the offerings , used Malachi 3: 10 , to encourage the brethren to always honour the Lord with their substance to support the work of God , assuring them that God will open the windows of Heaven and pour them a blessing that there would not be room to receive .
BROTHER DOMINIC KABINEH SHARING THE WORD BEFORE LIFTING THE OFFERING
In her spirit-filled sermon titled “Starting Over-The Prison doors are open: what are you still doing inside ?” , which was punctuated with shouts of “Amen” and “Alleluia” from the spiritually -animated congregation, the Rev. Tigidankay Kabs- Kanu, using Isaiah 61: 1-3 , preached to the brethren that God had redeemed them when he sent Jesus Christ to die for them on the Cross of Calvary . God , through the redemptive work on the Cross, she said, has healed the broken-hearted, set at liberty those that are in captivity (Religious, emotional, physical, economic, health etc), and opened the prison doors to those that are bound .She urged the congregation to walk out of the prison.
Some people, she said, are undergoing an emotional lockdown because of many things that had happened to them in their lives, including things that people had said over their lives or done to them.
SISTER AUGUSTINA LEADS THE PRAISE AND WORSHIP
She however admonished them that they need not be in that lockdown mode because the Blood of Jesus Christ had freed them from these things . She said that these oppressed people smile outwardly to other people but yet they spend their nights alone crying in their rooms , but the female preacher said this was not God’s plan for their lives.
There are also people tied down to legalism and religion , even though the Truth has come down to them ; they are still bound by liturgies, traditions , forms and false doctrines because they want to please man. But the Minister reminded them that Jesus Christ said in John 8: 33 that if the Son of God has set you free , you are free indeed. They have been set free from all these activities and should walk out of the prison doors to their freedom.
Mrs.Kabs-Kanu urged the congregation : ”If you are going to a destination and realize that you are in the wrong bus, you should ring the bell and let the bus stop, and allow you to get down and take the right bus. There is no reason for you to be in that captivity and emotional lockdown. The good news I have for you today is that God is a good God who is faithful, merciful and his love is unfailing. “, she preached on. She said that this was the time to take care of one’s spiritual life and follow God who has gven us hope through Jesus Christ, our hope of Glory. “If you have been told that you will not succeed in life, do not believe it because God has said you will be the head and not the tail and he has set before you open doors. He has said you are a royal priesthood, which makes you royalty “, she added. “If you have lost your joy, God said that he will give you beauty for ashes and the Joy of the Lord is your strength. ”
DESPICE NOT SMALL BEGINNINGS : THE ORGANIST AND HIS PROVISIONAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENT BUT HE PROVIDED EXCELLENT SERVICE DURING THE SINGING OF HYMNS
The church then prayed for the brethren and their families and for all nations and the prayerful segment ended with the singing of the hymn : HOW GREAT THOU ART , which was so spiritually moving that some members of the congregation cried while thinking about the goodness of God and the many wonderful things God has done for them.
Also providing useful services in the church yesterday were Sisters Isatu Kamara and Maggie Lawrence.
In the closing admonition , the Rev.Kabs-Kanu used isaiah 21:11-12 to reinforce Sister Tigidankay’s message : “Watchman, what of the night ? The watchman answered Morning cometh “. The Rev. assured the congrgation that for those who have been in darkness , the morning has come and they have been redeemed from captivity and should walk out of the prison and apropriate the measure of their freedom , as preached by his wife. He thanked everybody for coming and invited them to the Ministry’s Bible studies on Tuesday at 6 : 30 pm.
The service ended with members lovingly hugging each other and thanking God for such a wonderful inaugural service.
Since the church is in its infancy , it will meet at 2: 30pm every Sunday . The Kabs-Kanus and other members of the new church are inviting all christians to come and worship with them.
