Parliament approves Alie Kabba , Denis Sandy and 24 others

 

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Thursday 24th May 2018 debated and approved the Fourth Report of the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service, chaired by the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mohamed Sidie Tunis.

 

These nominees are to serve in high offices of State such as Foreign Affairs, Education, Lands, Trade and Justice among others, with the ultimate objective of supporting President Bio to succeed in the implementation of policies and programmes contained in the “New Direction”.

The following presidential nominees have been approved by Parliament:
1. Dr. Denis M. Sandy-Minister of Lands ,Housing and the Environment
2. Mr. Rex Bonapha-Deputy Minister of Lands, Housing and the Environment
3. Ms. Patricia N. Laverley- Deputy Minister of Finance
4. Rev. Abraham Sesay Jones-Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry
5. Dr. Augustine Anthony Sandi-Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation
6. Mr. Sadiq Sillah-Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation
7. Mr. Lansana Dumbuya- Deputy Minister of Labour
8. Ms. Francess Piagie Alghali-Minister of State, Vice President’s Office
9. Mr. Lawrence Lahai Leema-Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs
10. Mr. Eldred Tunde Taylor-Deputy Minister of Energy
11. Mr. Abdulai M. Bangurah-Deputy Attorney-General & Minister of Justice
12. Dr. Turad Senesie-Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education
13. Hon. Philip T. Tondoneh-Deputy Minister Local Government and Rural Development
14. Mr. Solomon A. Jusu Jamiru- Deputy Minister of Information and Communication

20. Ms. Emily Kadiatu Gogra-Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education
21. Dr. Edward Hinga Sandy-Deputy Minister of Water Resources
22. Mr. Kai Lawrence Mbayo-Deputy Minister of Sports
23. Mr. William Illawim Kongkatee Robinson-Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture
24. Ms. Evelyn Daphne Blackie-Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources
25. Mr. Peter Bayuku Konteh- Minister of Trade and Industry and
26. Dr. Alie Badara Sanjhan Kabba-Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
Seconding the motion, the Leader of Coalition for Change (C4C), Hon. Saa Emmerson Lamina said that he had no scintilla of doubt that the nominees will do well for the country and that the Mines and Minerals Act of 2009 should be reviewed because it is in conflict with many Agreements, cognizant of the Local Government Act of 2004.

On the other hand, the Deputy Opposition Leader, Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo commended and congratulated the presidential nominees on the grounds of magnanimity, whilst speaking on the need of addressing land related issues, the landing of fibre optic cables, and the improvement of our tourism sector to attract funds for national development.
The Chief Whip of Parliament, Hon. Dickson Rogers regarded the nominees as capable and qualified to run the affairs of the country, saying that their names are neither synonymous nor common to the SLPP, but are associated to development. He acclaimed President Bio for being the President of Sierra Leone and not SLPP, believing in Bio’s phenomenon of always “proving his critics wrong”.

Contributing, the Independent Candidate from Kailahun District, Hon. Quintin Salia-Konneh praised President Bio for selecting qualified Sierra Leoneans to serve the State, whilst referring to Dr. Turad Senesie as a “disciplinarian”.

The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Chernor R.M Bah commended the nominees and promised to work with them to actualize their dreams. Hon. Bah also said that as an opposition, they would highlight the challenges of the Government and proffer solutions. He encouraged the police to be professional in handling matters related to governance.
Concluding the debate, the Leader of Government Business,

Hon. Mohamed Sidie Tunis also commended President Bio for nominating qualified Sierra Leoneans to serve the country, the MPs for doing justice to the debate, whilst appreciating the nominees and wished them well in their respective appointments.
