The Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, Professor Kefala Kallon, has absconded from Sierra Leone, according to reliable reports reaching this newspaper.
Various reports said that Kelfala Kallon has been fired by President Maada Bio and sent on indefinite leave. But other reports said that he resigned and fled the country, after destroying the national economy.
According to reliable information, President Bio lost faith in the Governor and acted to save the Sierra Leone economy from crashing further, after years of steady and dangerous decline since the Bank Governor was appointed.
During Professor Kallon’s tenure, the country’s local currency sunk to damaging levels with 1 U.S dollar now equivalent to two million and five hundred leones.

Less than four months before the crucial 2023 elections, President Bio has lost his grip on power. Professor Kaifala Kallon was not sacked as reported but he ran away from President Bio. Top SLPP government officials are running away like Cheetahs, faster this time around from the seat of power in Freetown. Shocking but not surprising that the corrupt Bio presidency is disintegrating even before June 24, 2023, general and presidential elections. The latest high-profile SLPP government official to abscond from his post is the Sierra Leone Bank Governor Dr Kaifala Murana Kallon. Professor Kaifala Kallon is believed to have escaped unannounced while he was attending a conference abroad on behalf of the government. Reports say it was from overseas that Professor Murana Kallon sent his letter of resignation to President Bio, a situation that has infuriated President Bio and his SLPP government back home. In response to the scandalous resignation of the Bank Governor and to cover up the embarrassment, President Bio immediately issued a public announcement to sack the Bank Governor Dr Kaifala Kallon. No reasons were given by the government for the so-called sacking of the embattled Bank Governor. That was before this latest Kaifala Kallon abscond story became known.
Now, things are becoming succinct following the latest information confirming that Dr Kaifala Kallon was not sacked in the actual sense of the word but he secretly absconded away from his job as Bank Governor because he could no longer bear the persistent siphoning of national coffers from the bank by the Bios. Reports say Professor Kaifala Kallon was fed up with the continuous demand by President Bio and his wife First Lady Fatima Jabbe Bio forcing him to release billions of Leones currency and foreign cash to the First Couple without any accountability since 2018 when they came to power. This bombshell was confirmed by a Sierra Leone lady who recorded her message on audio. She revealed: “Sierra Leoneans, this is hot breaking news. Some of you might have heard about it. But this is no longer a secret. This is the first in history for a Bank Governor of the Central Bank to go to a conference and absconded. Such things normally happen when youth go to sporting events abroad and decide to run away for greener pastures especially if they come from a bad background. But Professor Kaifala Kallon ran away while on an overseas conference and he said he would not return to Sierra Leone because he does not like being forced to open the bank vault for Fatima Bio and her husband to siphon state coffers.
“Now Professor Kallon has smelt the rat. Professor Kallon has smelt trouble brewing in Sierra Leone for the SLPP government. When President Bio gave him that position, Kaifala Kallon said that former President Ernest Koroma did not leave enough money in the bank. But the last APC government was doing better. But since President Bio took power the best job he did was to kill his own people. Now it is the Deputy Bank Governor Dr Ibrahim Stephen who is acting as Bank Governor. He too should start opening the vault for the last lap because he has just a few months there. This is the same old man Professor Kallon who was supporting President Bio since 2018. Professor Kallon was given the job because of tribalism. He is from the Mende ethnic group like President Bio.
“President Bio’s corrupt regime has put a bounty on Kaifala Kallon’s head as a wanted man. Wanted for what? This is because Professor Kallon is abreast of the history of all the criminal activities done by President Bio. Maada Bio and the forty thieves continue to clear the country’s account, and now all of them are running away. Also, Deputy Internal Affairs Minister Lahai Lawrence Leema went for a visa to travel to the US but he must know that America is not a safe haven for them. Do you know how many politicians the US has jailed? One who served in Yayah Jammeh’s government in Gambia was arrested in the US. You Leema you have killed so many people in Sierra Leone, you want to run to the US! Anyone who comes here, we will point you out to the US government,” the Sierra Leone woman based in the US revealed in her audio yesterday.
Professor Kallon is an excellent example of a government official who has failed big time. Sierra Leoneans would never forget how he spent 38 million US dollars to bribe people to hand over their old Leone notes for the new Leone notes. Citizens were and still are appalled that Dr Kaifala Kallon even uttered that he used the money to bribe. He used the bribe during the press conference which did not go down well with Sierra Leoneans in and outside the country. As we go to press, it is understood the former SLPP police Chief Michael Sovulla has asked for amnesty in the United States but he has been refused according to information.
