Sierra Leone was among a large number of countries that attended and participated in the 6th Annual Meeting of the Global Network of Responsibility to Protect Focal Points, which was held in Seoul Korea from the 20-22nd of June 2016.

Sierra Leone was represented at this Conference by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Hon. Arrow Bockarie. Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, His Excellency Ambassador Omrie Michael Golley, was also invited, and attended to the Opening and Plenary sessions of the Conference.
An R2P Focal Point is a senior official within a Government, who facilitates national mechanisms for atrocity prevention, and promotes international cooperation by participating in the Global Network. The Global Network of the Responsibility to Protect was launched in 2010 and since its inception has held annual meetings in New York Accra, Gaborone, and Madrid.
The Governments of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic Republic of East Timor co-hosted this year’s Conference, which brought together Government officials from more than 50 Countries as well as representatives of the European Union, and the United Nations, including the UN’s Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, Mr. Adama Dieng.
