Sierra Leone’s 64th Independence Anniversary Poem by Nicholas Godwin

……OUR SIERRA LEONE IS 64…….
.
Our Sierra Leone is sixty four,
But what is there to celebrate?
When most of the people are poor,
And so much of conflict and hate.
.
Our Sierra Leone is sixty four,
But what should we rejoice about?
People don’t know what is in store,
As the election’s still in doubt.
.
Our Sierra Leone is sixty four,
But the people can’t be happy.
The rich can go and break the law,
But in the end always set free.
.
Our Sierra Leone is sixty four,
But poverty is so widespread.
It’s hunger and suffering galore;
O the people are poorly led.
.
Our Sierra Leone is sixty four,
But looks not like a holiday.
Leaders are corrupt to the core,
And fleece the country all the way.
.
Our Sierra Leone is sixty four
How did our country get so bad?
How can those who suffer take more?
I tell you friends, it is so sad.
.
Our Sierra Leone is sixty four,
You see the stress in most faces.
We really don’t want any war,
But that’s the thought in most cases.
.
Yes Sierra Leone is sixty four,
But what is there to celebrate?
Let all justice walk through the door
And save our country, once so great.
