*Correcting Our Duly Re-elected President on Sierra Leone’s Presidency of the U.N. Security Council*

My Fellow Citizens,
I did not watch His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s TownHall Meeting on July 23rd 2024 as I was busy with my academic work in class at Fourah Bay College but I understand our President did a very good performance that was so impressive. Congratulations Your Excellency.
However, I am dismayed and disturbed to see the President, yet again, giving his regime an exaggerated sense of achievement – this time, concerning the United Nations Security Council.
Contrary to what His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio is reported to have stated today, as quoted by AYV, his Government will NOT be the first to lead Sierra Leone to ‘chair’ (preside over) the United Nations Security Council next month August 2024.
His Excellency President Dr. Siaka Probyn Stevens of blessed memory was the very first Sierra Leone leader to not only take Sierra Leone to sit on the UN Security Council but it was under the great leadership of Siaka Stevens that Sierra Leone presided over the United Nations Security Council first in September 1970 and again for a second time in December 1971. On both recorded months, our beautiful Sierra Leone enjoyed the highest global ranking of taking over the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr. Siaka Stevens.
President Maada Bio has done very well to return Sierra Leone to the UN Security Council BUT he should also learn to give credit to those who led Sierra Leone before him. Otherwise, he is no better than the likes of Femi Claudius Cole who will falsely and vaingloriously allow claims that she is the first woman to have formed and led a political party in Sierra Leone – one of few utter rubbish from her lips over time.
Our duly re-elected President of Sierra Leone H.E. Dr. Julius Maada Bio should rise above such similar false vainglory and learn to recognise the achievements of his worthy predecessors including H.E. President Dr. Siaka Stevens and H.E. President Dr. Joseph Saidu Momoh amongst Others.
Like H.E. President Bio of the powerful SLPP regularly makes mistakes so also did former leaders from the powerful APC make their own mistakes like all humans do. However, it does not take away from the fact that H.E. Stevens, H.E. Momoh and Other APC Leaders, have very fantastic, glorious and inspirational legacies as the foundation on which the mighty APC party has been built upon.
Let’s learn to give RESPECT to the Achievements and Milestones reached by those who walked the paths before us.
Mr. President, you can do better Sir. Your Government will not be the first next month. Siaka Stevens’ Government was the first to preside over UN Security Council – and President Stevens did it twice!
As I sign off, I remain with RESPECT for our current duly re-elected president and his achievements whilst I recognize his mistakes due to his human frailties – just like achievements and mistakes of former APC Leaders of blessed memory.
